Make Right Decisions Early And Manage Them Daily

Kumar Gauraw

I have been a fan of John Maxwell and his teachings since my infancy in the arena of business development and leadership. A few pointers about decision making that immensly impacted me in his teaching are:

1. There are only a handful of important decisions that people need to make in their entire lifetimes. These are not too many.

2.Successful people make the right decisions in those key areas early and manage those decisions on daily basis.

3. The secret of our success is determined by our daily agenda. If you make a few key decisions and then manage them well in your daily agenda, you will succeed.

In his book Today Matters, he says, "You will never change your life until you change something you do daily. You see, success, doesn’t just suddenly occur one day in someone’s life. For that matter, neither does failure. Each is a process. Every day of your life is merely preparation for the next. What you become is the result of what you do today."

Secret Of Your Success Is In Your Daily Agenda

Personally, I have experienced that the day ends with no accomplishments, yet it seems like a hectic day. Many times when I go about the day with no plan ( especially the wekeends that seem very relaxing on the Mondays and we all look forward to it), the day is busier than usual and yet when I look back, there was nothing significant that was accomplished. Do you relate to this?

The above three points John spoke about in his book exactly point out the lack of planning and lack of clarity with regard to the daily agenda. I share wth you the twelve areas John suggests to plan and then manage on a daily basis in his book, Today Matters:

Here are the twelve areas where I make decisions and then manage them on a day-to-day basis:

  1. Attitude: Today’s attitude gives me possibilities.
  2. Priorities: Today’s priorities give me focus.
  3. Health: Today’s health gives me strength.
  4. Family: Today’s family time gives me stability.
  5. Thinking: Today’s thinking gives me an advantage.
  6. Commitment: Today’s commitment gives me tenacity.
  7. Finances: Today’s financial decisions give me options.
  8. Faith: Today’s faith gives me peace.
  9. Relationships: Today’s relationships give me fulfillment.
  10. Generosity: Today’s generosity gives me significance.
  11. Values: Today’s values give me direction.
  12. Growth: Today’s growth gives me potential.

Everyone wants to have a good day, but not many people know what a good day looks like – much less how to create one. These principles that John shared, have helped me define a great day and create that amazing experience on a day-to-day basis. I found these principles very helpful and here I present these to you. Hope you find them useful.
