The Kashmir Files-The Movie, History and the Genocides of Kashmiri Hindus

Kumar Gauraw

I cleared my schedule yesterday (March 13, 2022) and got my two tickets to watch the afternoon show of Vivek Agnihotri’s ‘The Kashmir Files’, which has created waves worldwide. The movie deserves a second look and therefore, I am planning to take kids to this movie again, this week

All I can say about The Kashmir Files itself is that this movie is extremely intense, overwhelming, and shows the naked truth of the seventh genocide of the Kashmiri Hindus committed by the Islamic Terrorists that started in January 1990. The Kashmir Files captures the lived memory of Kashmiri Hindus, rips off band-aids that were administered by the establishment to keep it all silent. The movie captures the pain that we swept under the carpet to get on with life, a pain the world at large anyway had turned a blind eye to. The movie captures a lived trauma that not anyone dared to even speak much of.
The Kashmir Files-movie-review-Kashmir-History-Hindu-Genocide by Islamic Terrorists
Three decades have already passed since that horrific ‘exodus’ of more than 500,000 Kashmiri Pandits and their lived history already branded a myth, Hindu propaganda. The 2% minority of the valley, the Kashmiri Pandits had been branded an oppressive majority by the mainstream media, and their murderers wined and dined with PMs and Lutyens elite. Even the eminent Lordships of the Indian Supreme Court snubbed refused to listen to their tragedy asking the oppressed to forget it and move on to uphold secular chatter of the country. The naked truth of Kashmir, the horrors of Islamic terrorism was almost buried successfully by secular India…until the movie, The Kashmir Files was released! That changes things for India and for the rest of the world.

The Kashmir Files – The Plot Brief

Seated in the back row, I watched The Kashmir Files, in which the story revolves around the journey of a young student (Pandit himself) played by Darshan Kumar. Through this character of Darshan Kumar, the movie brilliantly exposes how the left, liberal cabal, in bed with the Islamists, conspires and effectively brainwashes the younger generation to turn them against their own motherland, their own people.  The whole storyline is about the journey of Darshan Kumar’s character from being an ultra-leftist, anti-national to learning about the genocide of his own people, his own parents.

Vivek Agnihotri has brought the heart-wrenching but unvarnished truth of the plight of the Kashmiri Hindus in the form of this movie that has shaken everyone who had the courage to sit through those 170 minutes of The Kashmir Files.

The supremely talented Pallavi Joshi has played a character looking like Arundhati Roy giving a speech about the freedom of Kashmir, raising slogans of ‘Azaadi’ brainwashing young students of JNU (the movie name of the university is ANU). Pallavi has done such a tremendous job with this role that she can be easily voted as the most hated character of the movie.

Scene from the kashmir-files-movie-islamic-terrorist-asking-men-to-leave-their-women-behind-and-run-away-from-Kashmir

The Kashmir Files movie shows you the fate Kashmiri Hindus met at the hands of Islamic terrorists among the chants of Ralive, Tsalive, or Galive (Convert to Islam, Run Away or Die) and other Islamist slogans raised by thousands of Islamic terrorists through the streets of Kashmir valley during that fateful January of 1990.

The movie brilliantly exposes the campus politics in colleges today that diminish the plight of the Kashmiri Pandits and that genocide as a fantasy, helping the Islamists to paint themselves as the victims. The Kashmir Files shows just how craftily young men and women are brainwashed to believe that no genocide really took place in Kashmir and the Kashmiri Hindus just got up and simply left.

The actual story of what happened to Kashmiri Hindus is told in flashback. Sitting in the theatre, in pin-drop silence, you can almost smell the blood of the innocent and helpless Hindus and feel it dripping down your face. I am not going to narrate the entire movie to you, but it covers some of the most horrific murders of that genocide just to make us realize, to make us feel what Kashmiri Hindus had to live through…

I had seen videos of reactions of people who watched The Kashmir Files before me, and my experience was no different. Every person seated in that theatre sat through the movie credits when the movie ended. In those 3 minutes, not a word, not a sound was made. It was not really because people were paying tributes to the technicians by reading their names. It was because people, including myself, needed those three minutes to recollect ourselves after the shock we had just been through in those 170 minutes without a break…

The director of The Kashmir Files, Vivek Agnihotri, has earned tremendous respect for the courage and commitment he has shown by immortalizing the suffering of Kashmiri Hindus and exposing the propagandists who denied the genocide that took place in 1990 until now.

Soul Trembling, Gruesome but True Stories of Hindu Genocide in Kashmir

If you have watched the movie, you must be curious to know more. If you haven’t watched The Kashmir Files yet, it may be a good idea to learn about the Kashmiri Hindu genocide before you watch the movie. So, here are some of the most heinous crimes committed during that period:

Brutal Rape and Murder of Girija Tickoo

Girija Tickoo was a Kashmiri Hindu from Bandipora. She worked as a laboratory assistant at a government school in Kashmir Valley. She fled the Kashmir region along with her family. She settled in Jammu after the insurgency broke out in Kashmir with the “Azadi Movement” by the JKLF(Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front, headed by Yasin Malik).

One day, she received a call from someone who claimed the situation was better in the valley and she could come back to collect her salary. She was assured of safety and that the area was now safer.girija-tickoo-kashmiri-hindu-murdered-brutally

Unfortunately, she believed in the assurance. In June 1990, Girija went to the valley to collect her salary and went to meet a local Muslim colleague. She was not aware that Jihadi terrorists were tracking her all along. Girija Tickoo was dragged from her colleague’s home, blindfolded, and was taken to an undisclosed location. Everyone silently watched her being abducted, including her colleague, and people in the neighborhood said absolutely nothing.

After a few days, her disfigured dead body was found on the roadside. The autopsy revealed that she was brutally gang-raped, sodomized, horribly tortured, and cut into two halves using a mechanical saw while she was still alive. Yes, a fully conscious woman was cut into two pieces by the sharp saw, right from the middle of her body! Imagine her agony… By the way, among those who did this to Girija Tikoo were those who were her own students.

The Human Rights activists, the courts, and the governments did not respond to this gory killing, and no arrests were made; nobody even was named explicitly for this crime. The hyperactive omnipresent mainstream media didn’t broadcast her story. Her family still awaits justice, just like the hundreds and thousands of other Kashmiri Pandits whose suffering has been deemed as ‘propaganda’ by the left-liberal cabal of the media and political parties.

The Gruesome Murder of BK Ganju in Chhota Bazar of Srinagar

What happened to BK Ganju in the Chhota Bazar area of Srinagar on 22nd March 1990 again proves that it was not only the Islamic terrorists who wanted this long-lasting religious massacre, but they continued to get the full support of the locals, the ‘peaceful’ neighbors of those poor Kashmiri Hindus.

When the curfew was lifted that day, BK Ganju, a telecom engineer, was returning home. He had no idea that he was being followed. Somehow, his wife noticed it as he approached the house. As soon as he entered his house, the wife bolted the door. She made him run upstairs and hide in big boxes of rice on the third floor of the house.

The terrorists broke into the house searched but couldn’t locate Ganju. When they started returning, the neighbors knew where Ganju was hiding. So, the neighbors called back those Islamic terrorists and told exposed Ganju’s hiding spot. The terrorists came back, found the container, shot through it, and killed him right inside the container. When the blood started flowing through the container into the rice, their way, they force-fed the blood-soaked rice to his wife.

When an Old Friend Betrayed and Killed Tez Krishan Razdan, a Kashmiri Pandit

In Feb 1990, Tez Krishan Razdan had come on leave to his native village in Budgam District from Punjab, where he was posted as a CBI Inspector. Following the news of unrest in the valley and continuous attacks on Kashmiri Pundits, Razdan had decided to move to Punjab with his entire family. On 12th Feb, he met his old friend and neighbor Manzoor Ahmed Shalla, unaware that he had turned into a terrorist who worked for JKLF.

Manzoor persuaded Tez to accompany him to Lal Chowk, and soon both left in a bus. When the bus reached its next station, a village called Kadal, Manzoor Ahmed pulled out his revolver and shot Razdan multiple times in his chest. He then dragged him out of the bus and invited other Muslim passengers to crush him under their feet. Mercilessly, he then dragged a profusely bleeding Razdan further and abandoned his body near a mosque. With an intention to instill fear in the entire Kashmiri Pandit community, he took out Razdan’s identity papers from his pocket and brutally nailed them over his body. Tez Krishan Razdan was killed by his own friend. Later, police revealed all the details related to the murder and disclosed how Manzoor was Razdan’s well-known friend and neighbor. The Police then cremated the body along with his identity papers.

The Brutal Murder of Sarwanand Kaul Premi and his son, Virender Kaul

Sarwanand Kaul Premi, a 64-year-old, was a well-known Kashmiri poet and a scholar. Along with his son, Virender Kaul, he was murdered in a horrific manner on the fateful night of 30th April 1990. Even though his family kept asking him to leave the village given the mounting terrorist activities and unabated killings of his community members, he refused, believing in his beloved Kashmiri’s “secular traditions.” He was deeply religious and deeply liberal. He thought he was respected widely in the area predominated by the Muslims.

His faith in his fellow Muslim brothers was ultimately shattered on the evening of 29th April, when three terrorists entered his house and ordered the entire family to collect in one room. The terrorists demanded that they collect all their valuables – gold, jewelry, cash, pashmina garments, saris, shawls, etc. The gold and other jewelry women and the men were wearing were torn off their bodies. Packing all these in an emptied suitcase, they asked the frail Sarwanand Premi to carry the suitcase and follow them.

“We mean no harm to him, and he will return,” the terrorists told the wailing and weeping family members.

As the ill fate awaited the father and the son, Virender Kaul, his son, volunteered to accompany his father so that he could lead the old man back in the dark night.
“Come on, you too, if you so desire. Two is better than one”, they told Virender. Both the father and the son were herded out of the house.
What followed would put to shame even Hitler’s executioners. When the dead bodies of these two men were found after two days, the scene was appalling and nauseating. The skin on their forehead between the eyebrows, where Premi used to apply the sandalwood mark commonly known as “Tilak,” was peeled off. The entire body bore the marks of cigarette burns. The limbs were found broken at multiple places, and the eyes of both father and son were gouged out. They were later hanged and, to be doubly sure, were shot too.

This was done to an old and highly respected man, in whose house a rare manuscript of the holy Quran was found placed with reverence in his prayer room.

Brutal Murder of Chunni Lal Shalla by his Muslim Coworker in Sopore

Chunni Lal Shalla was posted at Langate near Kupwars. He wanted to visit his family at Sopore after about six months. To avoid being identified by the Islamic terrorists, Shalla had grown a beard. A Muslim constable working under him at Langate also accompanied him in the same bus to Sopore.

On reaching Sopore, two militants came searching for him one day but could not recognize him because of his beard. They had hardly left when the Muslim Constable called them back and divulged the identity of Chunni Lal Shalla to them.

Even before the terrorists could do anything, the Constable himself took out a dagger and slashed off his entire right cheek along with the beard. Blood gushed out, and the poor Shalla was in a state of shock. The cruel Constable jolted him, saying:

“You Suar (pig). I will not allow you to have a Jamat-i-Islami type beard on your other cheek also.”

Then, he slashed off his left cheek with his dagger as well. The two militants and the Muslim Constable then battered his face with hockey sticks shouting:

Bastard, we won’t even waste a bullet on you.

They kept beating him until he turned unconscious and/or appeared dead, they fled the scene. Chunni Lal Shalla bled to death.

The Agony of Ashok Kumar Qazi Enjoyed by Murderers in Zaindar Mohalla.

This is the story where three Islamic terrorists enjoyed brutally murdering Ashok Kumar Qazi, who worked in the Handicrafts Dept, on 24th February 1990. On that fateful day in Zaindar Mohalla locality, they approached him and shot him on the knuckles while he was going shopping. His only fault was that he was a Hindu (Islamists called him ‘Kaffir’)

He fell and cried in agony for help. None among the passers-by or the shopkeepers responded though they all knew him. They just looked the other way even though they knew the man lived there, worked there, and was an energetic social worker.

In their sadistic frenzy, the three murderers danced around the helpless Qazi as he suffered in agony. They went ahead and pulled his hair out. They slapped him continuously and even spat on his face. They were still not satisfied. One of them unfastened his trousers and urinated on him. Ashok was profusely bleeding, crying for help. But the militants did not kill him still and continued to enjoy the writhing and twitching of his body.

As the siren of a distant police van fell on their ears, the murderers decided to end his agony, and they pumped a few bullets into his stomach and chest, leaving his dead body on the frozen road.

Navin Saproo was Brutally Murdered Because of his Faith in Srinagar

Navin Saproo, a resident of Habba Kadal, Srinagar, was employed with Central Government service. While returning from his office on 27th Feb 1990, Islamic terrorists surrounded him and shot him with multiple bullets in broad daylight.

Near Kanya Kadal, he was shot in broad daylight in front of onlookers, but no one stepped forward to help the unconscious Saproo. A Hindu woman present there showed courage and frantically pleaded with the terrorists to spare the young man’s life, but all in vain. Dancing around the wounded body of Navin Saproo, terrorists kept shooting him repeatedly, avoiding any vital organ just to prolong his agony as he bled profusely.

As the wailing relatives of the young man brought away his dead body in a police van, the terrorists followed in a truck right up to the cremation ground, dancing and singing all the way. The shameless and gruesome act continued till the body of Navin Saproo, a Kashmiri Hindu, was reduced to ashes.

Brutal Kashmiri Pandit Massacre in Nadimarg of Pulawama District

On March 23 of 2003, Nadimarg of Pulwama District, just seven kilometers from the home town of the State Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, entered as yet another chapter in the history of genocide of Kashmiri Pandits. In a brutal display of savagery, the merchants of terror, waging the Jehadic war moved down 24 Kashmiri Hindus, including 11 women and two children.

Eyewitnesses, who survived the carnage said a group of 4-7, heavily armed terrorists, dressed in army uniform, descended on Nadimarg hamlet at around 10.30 PM, when the victims were going to sleep. They first went to the police picket, set up to safeguard the Pandit population of the village. Nine policemen had been posted there to look after the protection of 55 families in a radius of 15-20 km.

At the time of the attack, only five cops were present. These poorly motivated policemen meekly surrendered their weapons and escaped from the scene. Knowing the identity of police cops, the terrorists did not touch police. The cops even did not go to report the massacre to the nearby Zainpora police station.

The terrorists, then, went to knock at the doors of Kashmiri Pandit houses. They commanded them to assemble in the compound near the picket under a Chinar tree. Those who did not comply with orders had their doors broken open and then beaten up. The Islamic terrorists were calling the people by their names. That means these are the same people who knew their victims before massacring them. They asked everybody to come out.

After collecting the Pandits under the Chinar tree, the terrorists began looting Pandit houses. The looted goods were put in a matador. The Pandits thought, possibly the intention of the terrorists was to loot them and their lives would be spared. But soon after the matador was dispatched, the terrorists opened fire indiscriminately upon the hapless Pandits, killing 24 people. As guns fell silent, the gunmen checked the dead bodies to ensure everyone was dead.

This was not over yet. As the killers began to leave, a few meters away from the massacre site, they heard the cries of a baby. One of the terrorists shouted that some work was still unfinished. One of them found the child (the name of the child was Monu, a 2-year-old) and shot him in the chest.

Most of the victims were found with bullet holes in their faces. Survivors (a few who had kept them hidden somehow at the time of the massacre) said many of the people were killed in cold blood from point-blank range. Almost all the bodies were found with gunshot wounds in their heads.

Countless Atrocities on Kashmiri Hindus, Including on Muslims Perceived to be Progressive in Kashmir

There are countless stories of the horrors of Kashmiri Hindus, even on Muslims who were perceived by the Islamic terrorists as sympathetic to Hindus in the valley are still fresh in the minds of Kashmiri people. Not all these gruesome murders and other atrocities committed against Kashmiri Pandits could be captured in a 3-hour old movie. But the film has definitely established that these happened awakened the world to acknowledge the genocide of Kashmiri Pandits. This is the first step in the right direction. You can read many of these stories that I share in this post today, and many more. Click here to read more.

Resources for Learning History of Kashmir and Genocide of Kashmiri Hindus

There is not much written in the mainstream media about the Hindu Genocide of Kashmir. But there are a few online articles and books to gain insight into Kashmir’s history and the plight of Kashmiri Hindus for centuries, including the seventh genocide that started in 1990.

In his book, Our Moon Has Blood Clots: The Exodus of the Kashmiri Pandits, author and journalist Rahul Pandita provides a timeline of the events that brought about that exodus. In this, Pandita writes about the murder of political activist Tika Lal Taploo in September 1989 and goes on to list many more horrid memories.

The book, Kalhana’s Rajatarangini captures a connected narrative of the various dynasties which ruled Kasmir from the earliest period down to his own time. He begins with the legends which represent the popular traditions of the country regarding its earliest history. These he follows up by a narrative of subsequent reigns taken from older written records and arranged in a strictly chronological order. The final portion of the work, considerable both in extent and historical interest, is devoted to an account of the events which the author knew by personal experience or from the relation of living witnesses.

Another couple of links below bring provide an opportunity to learn more of the horrific acts by Islamic terrorists with the support of the local Muslim community of Kashmir is worth reading at the below link:

Another video recording of a documentary of Kashmir named “Kashmir The Story | Full Documentary On The History & Timelines Of Kashmir Valley” is another good document to be studied for someone who needs to understand Kashmir, its history, culture, and what caused the seventh Hindu Genocide of Kashmir that started around 1989 and continued for almost a decade.

A forty-minute video recording of Kashmiri Pandits sharing their story and their pain and how they have been continuously ignored for decades by the political parties. This video exposes the hypocrisy of the political class and how Kashmiri Hindus were ignored even after knowing what had been done with them for so many years. Watch the video:

We live in the modern age and most of us do not even know about the history of Kashmir. We need a comprehensive unbreaking-india-book-sanjay-dixit-jaipur-dialoguesknowledge of the history of Kashmir from the ancient India, all the way till today. Having learned about the plight of Kashmir and the Kashmiri Hindu community, one must know how Article 370 of the Indian constitution contributed to the rise of terrorism and separatism in Kashmir that caused more than half a million Kashmiri Pandits to abandon their homes, everything and flee the valley.

For that study, to know Kashmir from it’s roots, all the way till the time the Article 370 and 35A were abrogated by the Modi government in 2019.

I highly recommend the book “Unbreaking India: Decisions on Article 370 & The CAA” by Sanjay Dixit as a comprehensive study on Kashmir that discusses some amazing insights and why the abrogation of that Article helped India, and the way forward for India as a nation. This book is a must-read on this Kashmir.
