Many people ask how did I start making money online and if I could help. I wanted to share some of my experiences while building my online business and to share how I did  it.
Starting Business Online-Businessman-Cutting-Ribbon
I have been an online marketer for at least 5 years now with a thriving web development business, a managed WordPress hosting business, and social media marketing services business. Today, I do small-to-large scale website design/development projects for professionals and companies with an offshore development center in India.

It amazes many people when I say that I didn’t know the difference between a static web page and a blog post. I was already making a six figure income through my profession which had nothing to do with online marketing or websites.

The Right Way And The Wrong Way Of Self-Promotion

Over the years I have met people who absolutely believe that the only people who promote themselves and talk about their skills and craft are those who are not good at it. Have you met people like that? Do you believe in that theory?

I have not written about leadership for a while on this blog and I thought I need to talk about the relationship between confidence and success in this post.

Confidence Comes Naturally With SUCCESS but, SUCCESS Comes Only To Those Who Are Confident

Somebody I am coaching to set up a business shared a concern that triggered this post today. It’s very common and one of the things I struggled with in the beginning as well.

There seems to always be confusion about using Facebook Page vs Facebook Profile for business. For a small business owner or a solo entrepreneur, it is a bit confusing to go one or the other way.

Perplexed Businessman Wondering If Facebook Page Is Better or facebook Pofile is appropriate for his business

When I started to use Facebook back in the days, I didn’t have any business online. My profile on Facebook was to be in touch with friends and family. It was actually the cool new place where all my Orkut friends were migrating.

All things being equal, people will do business with, and refer business to, those people they know, like and trust.

You might have seen this incredible quote from international bestselling author, Bob Burg on my homepage already. Well, this is one my favorite quotes when it comes to business development. I truly believe that long term success of your business depends very heavily on this concept.

Online Trust Building - Proven Strategies

When it comes to building trust online, things get a bit tricky. Anybody can claim to be an expert at something by establishing a website and publishing some content worth a few pages.

Well, that means the competition is very high. Establishing your credibility and building trust online in such a steep competition is a solid uphill battle. And you must win this battle or else your business won’t see much success in today’s online world.

So, how do you do that?

If it wasn’t for the fear of rejection, most people would love to be in business for themselves. It is the fear of rejection that stops many people from even starting their own business, while many others give up early on when they are faced with a few rejections.

Rejections Make You A Champion - Angry Women Rejecting An Offer

Even though I have been pretty confident (my mother thought I was overconfident) from my childhood, I have been intimidated by rejections very much in the early days of my career as an entrepreneur. It was unacceptable to me that somebody would actually reject my offer.

In fact, it was because of the fear of rejection that I never went for ‘Walk-In’ job interviews.  I never applied for a job by myself. I uploaded my resumes on job websites and waited for the calls to come. To my serendipity, I did receive interview calls and I always (I mean always) got selected.

Investing in my future is the first thing I had to learn when I started my journey as an entrepreneur. It was an obvious but difficult habit to cultivate as I did not have a business background. I did not understand the value of investing in the beginning.

Investing In Your Blog As Business Is Important To Growth

However, with the help and support of my coach, I got over it and learnt to invest appropriately.

Long before I had this blog I learned that business owners need to think very differently than employees do. I needed to learn to think like a business owner if I intended to become one. Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.  ~Mahatma Gandhi  [tweet this]

If you have known me for any length of time, you know that I attend many business conferences every year. I usually attend a least two or three every quarter. In fact,  as I write this, I am getting ready for the next 3 day major business conference coming up on the East Coast next month.

Personal Development Conference In Progress

To me, it is a great way to meet other successful entrepreneurs coming from different walks of life and network with them. Many times I take a few of my close friends and business associates with me to these conferences and amaze them with the value these conferences add to their life with the compelling messages that come from the stage.

Everybody wants to be successful. I haven’t met an entrepreneur who doesn’t want to make it happen for his/her business. To a business leader, success of the enterprise is actually a responsibility.

What Separates Successful Business Leaders From The Unsuccessful

Yet, not everybody is able to make it. The question is – Why? How come some business leaders succeed beyond measure and others, in the same arena, can’t even make a mark? What are some of the differentiating factors?

This Difference Is Important

As a leader, it is important to understand the differentiating factors because you are responsible for your successes and failures equally. As a leader of your business, you need to plan your success, avoid the potholes and follow the path to success to make it happen.
